Syrian Civil War
Committee Description:
Alongside the calamity of 2020, the Syrian Civil War still rages on. The territories formerly held by the Islamic State have been mostly retaken by either Syrian government forces under the control of Bashar al-Assad or the Syrian Democratic Forces under the control of the Syrian Democratic Council. Military campaigns from Russia and the United States in Syria continue while Turkey maintains territorial claims and clashes with both the SDF and Assad’s forces. At this stage, the Turkish threat is unquestionable, it is a case of if, not when. The SDF has now been allowed by the United States to begin coordinating and negotiating with Assad’s government and they must collaborate again in order to maintain the security of Syria against Turkey, as the conflicts of the civil war itself begin to fall by the wayside.
